G2B Restaurant & Brewery: Fine Dining and Drinking with a Twist

G2B Restaurant & Brewery is a New American restaurant and nano-brewery serving Durham, NC with a casual fine dining atmosphere. General manager Katie Beverley says the hope is that guests feel comfortable coming in work clothes, formal attire or their everyday wardrobe. The menu isn't vast, but it has elements of fine dining melded with comfort food. To solidify a pleasant customer experience, they've gathered the best brews from around the country and added their own into the mix, something Beverley views as adventurous.

"Plain and simple, [brewing beer] is fun and we enjoy pushing the boundaries and trying new ideas out," Beverley says. "When you like to drink beer, as we do, you find ways to challenge yourself and try to create something unique and different, but approachable."

With their own head brewer on staff with a background in brewing, distillation and fermentation, G2B has a selection of their own beers including a pale ale, citrus IPA, cream ale, hefeweizen, saison and stout. They call it a "labor of love" and their "passion," and their collection of in-house brews is growing rapidly. They put a unique twist on many of their beers making them truly a G2B creation: Toasted Coconut IPA, Caramel IPA, Peanut Butter Golden Stout, Amber Ale with Grilled Pineapple, Blueberry Saison and Citra IPA.

"Currently our list of beers we brew is changing [and] growing daily," says Beverley. "We make beer that we would want to drink and that we enjoy, that pairs well with our cuisine. The advantage is we know everything that went into the beer first hand!"

Their menu, according to Beverley, specializes in locally sourced goods. More than 60% of their menu comes from local resources, including mushrooms, oysters and ramps, allowing their patrons to experience what the Durham area has to offer in the agriculture and food industries.

Like their beers, their menu is constantly evolving and growing. Customer favorites include the Atlantic Scallops, an entrée with baby spinach, cauliflower puree and an apricot-red curry. The Coffee Spiced Beef Shoulder Filet is another popular menu item. It's paired with polenta, confit potatoes and trumpet mushrooms. The menu also features a section dedicated to "Modern Pub Fare," with the G2B take on chips and dip (crispy cauliflower, green chickpea hummus and coriander), Fried Green Tomatoes with tomato relish, bacon and an herb buttermilk sauce, and Fish & Chips with a caper aioli.

"We want everyone to be able to appreciate what our area has to offer," says Beverley. "We also want to create dishes for you that you may not make at home yourself, or if you do, we add a fun twist to it!"
