What are the most common decorating mistakes you notice when you walk into a home?

Lack of cohesion between spaces and overly accessorized rooms.

What tips do you have for themes, color choices, furniture when decorating a long lasting room for a young child?

Try to avoid themes and focus more on furniture and colors that will suit the child as they grow. Try and buy at least one piece that the child will be able to take with them when they leave for college, a great chest of drawers or a beautiful piece of art.

How do you deal with combined living and dining rooms?

Combine the spaces using colors and fabrics that work together so that if you move furniture between the two spaces it always "works". A good start would be to purchase a host and hostess chair. When you need seating for the table you have it and the rest of the time they can function as sitting chairs in your living space. Another thought would be to have a console table or rolling bar cart that sits behind a sofa so that you can entertain easily within the space.

What current trend do you think people will become tired of in five years?

Chevron, ikat and greek key! If they haven't tired of it already ;)

Do you ever have trouble finding inspiration? What inspires you today?

No, our studio houses thousands of incredible fabrics we have collected over the years, fabrics we have out sourced from The two best showrooms in the US, the D&D in NYC & ADAC in Atlanta. We have unbelievable lines from anywhere you could think of: Paris, Germany even New Zealand. If we can't be inspired by those we have a problem :)

Today what inspires us? Today we are working on a renovation for a super modern penthouse in downtown Raleigh and are actually finding inspiration in the rain.

Do you have any personal design secrets you'd like to share?

Pull furniture out into the room, don't line it up against the wall.
