ArtSource Fine Art Brings Together the Community And Artists Through Exhibitions And Special Events

By Pamela Sosnowski

From the outside, ArtSource Fine Art looks like any other retail space in an urban location. But inside, the gallery comes alive with the ever-changing, vibrant artwork of local artists.

ArtSource was founded by partners (and former competitors) Nancy McClure and Sharon Tharrington in 1990 as a way of featuring artists from the Southeast U.S. and beyond. The owners also offer art consulting and framing services to local businesses as well as private collectors. Nearly all of ArtSource's staff is artists themselves, so they understand not only the industry but the materials and techniques that go into the work that they sell. Both McClure's paintings and Tharrington's jewelry line is also exhibited at the gallery.

"From their beginning in a small warehouse downtown as ArtSource Consultants, they moved to Five Points and eventually to North Hills, where the ArtSource Fine Art Gallery & Framing is now located," says Lacy McClure, the gallery's advertising, PR, and event coordinator. "Inspiration for the type of gallery ArtSource has become, arose from McClure and Tharrington's desire to represent the best in regional art being created by artists living and working in the Southeast."

The gallery hosts 3-4 exhibitions per year representing all genres from abstract to landscape and also jewelry and three-dimensional artwork. "We have four major exhibitions a year," says McClure. "These include an artist reception where people can come to the gallery and see the featured artists' newest work and meet the artist. We work very closely with all of our artists to represent art which appeals to our residential and business clientele alike."

Besides hosting exhibitions, ArtSource can also host your private party or function surrounded by artwork. The gallery can comfortable accommodate 175 standing or 80 seated guests and provides a smoke-free venue that creates a memorable atmosphere for fund raising, corporate gatherings, private parties and other special events. The rental rate not only includes the use of the space, but the on-hands assistance of one ArtSource team member during the event and who can answer questions about the artwork.

Being located in the midtown Raleigh has also proved profitable for the gallery, as it's situated in a neighborhood known for its restaurants, shops, and businesses. "Raleigh is experiencing incredible growth, with new urban development attracting people from all over the country to come live and work here," explains McClure. "ArtSource is located in 'Midtown' where people live, work and play in very close proximity."

In March, the gallery will host a three-day workshop in oil painting basics led by local artist Connie Winters. Following the workshop with Connie, they will be featuring Connie's work with another Charlotte artist, Laura Park from March 9-April 7. Past events have included artist demos, wine tastings, interactive art events, and more. It's another way ArtSource is immersing the Raleigh community in art and introducing them to the work of local artists.
